L. Peter Boice is Conservation Team Leader in the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment. He oversees the management of natural and cultural resources on DoDs 25 million acres of public lands. He also oversees DoDs Legacy Resource Management Program. He has participated in interagency and Departmental initiatives covering many issues, including ecosystem management, invasive species control, biodiversity conservation, wetlands, military overflights, recreational fishing, and conservation education. Mr. Boice has also served as Coordinator for DoDs Chesapeake Bay Program, and Program Manager for Dods Underground Storage Tank, wetlands management, environmental planning and environmental awards programs. Mr. Boice has a B.A. and M.A. in economic geography from Syracuse Universitys Maxwell School, and has taken advanced graduate work in urban environmental perception at the University of Toronto and in environmental science at the State University of New York. He is currently enrolled in USDAs Natural History certificate program. He has taught urban geography and environmental studies at the University of Maryland, Far East division, the University of Toronto, and Columbia College. He served as a Russian interpreter in the U.S. Navy. He organized a regional conference on the future of a heavily used urban lake adjacent to Syracuse, New York, and has coordinated fund raising walks to purchase natural areas of environmental significance. Mr. Boice, his wife, Mary Belknap, and their three daughters live in Rockville, Maryland.
