Orley (Chip)R. Taylor is the Director of Monarch Watch, a collaborative network of students, teachers, volunteers, and researchers dedicated to the study of Monarch butterflies. Areas of emphasis include science education, research, and conservation. Taylor received his MS and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut, and his specialties include ecology, entomology, and evolutionary biology. He teaches courses in the Biology of Honey Bees, Experimental Field Ecology and has directed courses in Tropical Biology for the Organization for Tropical Studies in Costa Rica. Taylor is an insect ecologist who has specialized in the population biology and mating behavior of honeybees and butterflies. He has worked on Neotropical African honeybees (killer bees) since 1974 and has devoted much of the last eight years to the development of Monarch Watch. Taylor's studies are widely publicized, and he has served as a consultant for 18 documentaries on honeybees and butterflies.
