Wayne Wehling is an Entomologist with the USDA, APHIS, Plant Protection and Quarantine. He is the agencys subject matter expert on honey bees and other Apoidea. Wayne is responsible for regulations and permits for Hymenoptera. He also evaluates other Arthropod species proposed for importation or interstate movement, specializing on insects for zoos/museums and butterfly houses. While a masters student he worked with Carl Johansen and Kris Kious at Washington State University (1980-83) on parasitoids and applied biology of Nomia melanderia and Megachile Rotundata. He has been in and around beekeeping ofr 35 years. While a technician for John N. Thompson at WSU he worked on several projects involving pollination ecology. His Ph.D. and post-doc work were on genetic and geographic variation in oviposition preference and host utilization in swallowtail butterflies. His goals are to promote conservation education through Arthropods.
